Why you should buy a poppy…

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:32 pm by Sam

At a meeting a couple of weeks ago, I managed to rip my trousers in the crotch area. Luckily it happened at the end of the meeting and I had a long coat handy so I was able to run away without anyone noticing.

I put the trousers in the wash with the intention of sewing them back together once they were clean. I should have just thrown them out but my students days haven’t rubbed off yet

This morning, in a tired and grumpy state because I had to wake up at 6am, I pulled out the first pair of trousers from the pile of clean washing to wear.
It wasn’t till I got to work that I noticed the trousers I was wearing were the ‘hole in the crotch’ trousers. I dread to think about how many people saw my underwear on the train and tube this morning. A pin from the poppy I had on my suit came to the rescue and hid the rip while I was at work today but i still had to walk around with my legs crossed.

I have finally made to the gym for the first time in over a year. I thought I would start of lightly with a class, body combat. It was really fun, a cross between boxing, kick boxing, karate and aerobics. It was an all female class mainly because the instructor was really really really fit. His muscles… mmmm…dreamy!

In the past I had always been to classes taught by pushy female instructors telling you to “push that big arse” and “hold that wobbler tighter!” but this instructor was yummy and nice and gave me a big high five. He has defiantly made me want to come back to the gym. ;o)

As a result of last nights trip to the gym, every single muscle in my body aches today. I’m just glad I could work at home, the distance between the bed and office is just about doable.

Another first for this week – I did my first customer demo. I was nervous and on the train up to London I was on the phone to Lee crapping myself but in the end I had nothing to worry about. I guess what made me nervous was that i knew i was doing the demo to a group of developers and they would expect me to know everything about the product I was showing, but in fact that was not the case especially as the product I was showing is huge!

Mine and Lees family of computers had a new arrival this week – I have a new T60 after the screen on my T42 decided to have funny fits and disappear. I heard this was a common problem with T42’s?? I would write a review on what I think of the T60’s but when I was given the laptop, I wasn’t given any administrators rights so I haven’t been able to do anything with it other than play FreeCell and copy some documents over. The worst part is the sys admin guy is off sick, its like putting a piece of chocolate in front of me but not letting me eat it. Some people are so cruel.

So that rounds up my week. Only other news is PIKEYS! Why are there so many? While working from home, I see all the normal people go to work in the morning and then the pikeys and chavs come out in the masses. Get a job!

My First Assignment

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:36 pm by Sam

Yesterday was a big day for me – it was my first billable assignment as a consultant plus it was my first customer visit on my own. I’m so glad it went well and was not too difficult, I was really nervous the day before.

  • I am glad to have the first one out of the way and I am now looking forward to my next assignment. :o )

I have been sooo busy I haven’t had time to update my blog.

It’s really good to be back in the UK. It was nice living in New York but nothing beats being in your own home with familiar things around you and its good to see coffee shops in town which are not Starbucks!

Next time I go to America, I have to remember to take a packet of PG tips with me. I really hated the weak American tea.
